Supplements for skin, explained simply.

Healthy skin is partly an inside job. A few nutrients genuinely support it, here's the beginner version, without the serum-aisle hype.

Skin reflects the basics: sleep, water, sun protection, and what you eat. Supplements help most when they're filling a real gap, they won't out-run smoking, sugar, or sunburn.

The basics that actually matter

Support from the inside.

Vitamin C Moderate evidence

An antioxidant your body uses to build collagen.

Collagen keeps skin firm. Vitamin C is also found in fruits and vegetables, supplements help if your diet is low.

Zinc Moderate evidence

A mineral involved in skin repair and oil control.

Can help with acne-prone skin when levels are low. Not a cure, a supporting role.

Omega-3 (fish oil) Moderate evidence

Healthy fats that calm inflammation.

May help redness and dryness, and supports the skin's natural barrier.

Vitamin D Moderate evidence

The "sunshine" vitamin, important for skin's immune defence.

Linked to calmer skin in some conditions. Worth testing since deficiency is common.

Collagen peptides Emerging evidence

Protein building blocks marketed for skin elasticity.

Early studies are promising for hydration and elasticity, but evidence is still growing.
